Workshops and Special Sessions at BCFIC'12

I. Design, Analysis and Tools for Integrated Circuits and Systems Workshop

DATICS Workshops were initially created by a network of researchers and engineers both from academia and industry in the areas of Design, Analysis and Tools for Integrated Circuits and Systems. Recently, DATICS has been extended to the fields of Communication, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Technology.

The main target of DATICS-BCFIC’12 is to bring together software/hardware engineering researchers, computer scientists, practitioners and people from industry to exchange theories, ideas, techniques and experiences related to all aspects of DATICS.

Details of the DATICS-BCFIC’12 Workshop can be found at http://datics.org/bcfic2012.

CALL FOR PAPERS (also see more)

About the Special Session

The keyword '802.11' gives about 300000 results in Google scholar, 17500 of those are since 2011. These numbers are a clear indicator of the amount of research done around the '802.11' standard. However, the real impact of such huge effort is sometimes unclear or difficult to quantify, as much of the work done may not target the relevant problems or, which is an usual case, it is not properly disseminated.

The goal of this Special Session is to open a forum for the discussion of how the research can push the standardization bodies by effectively producing results that could be considered in the future 802.11 standards, or in their specific implementations by the different manufacturers. In this direction, we ask for papers that advance the State-of-the-art for the most recent and upcoming IEEE 802.11 standards/amendments such as: IEEE 802.11p, IEEE 802.11s, IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11ad, IEEE 802.11ah, IEEE 802.11af, etc.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • New modulation and channel coding techniques for WLANs operating below 1 GHz, at UHF bands and at 60 GHz.
  • Multi-channel PHY/MAC protocols, including Non-contiguous OFDM, cognitive radio techniques and dynamic channel-bonding strategies.
  • Single-user / Multi-user MIMO in both uplink and dowlink, including efficient CSI feed-back strategies and protocols.
  • Green WLANs: Energy Efficient PHY/MAC protocols, including very-lower power WLANs.
  • Coexistence mechanisms between WLANs and other wireless networks in IMS bands.
  • Mesh (multi-hop) Networking and vehicular networks.
  • Support for multimedia traffic and QoS Management.

Extended selected best papers will be considered for publication in a journal special issue.
